Description

We at the Laughing Elephant have a weakness not just for elephants that laugh, but all animals. We have found a delightfully illustrated and funny book that does these various farm animals justice, in their full laughing glory.

Ha- Ha Farm is a faithful reproductions of the 1944 original by Thirma & Carlyle Leech. It is a mechanical book, for a small child, which tells the simple story of the farm, in a pleasing rhyming format. The mechanical movements invite the child to help the animals laugh. A perfect gift for any child who like their fancies tickled.

Description

This volume evokes children’s teatime through images from antique children’s books. It shows solitary teas, teas with pets, teas with toys, teas with guests, and children having tea with adults. It also includes recipes for alternate beverages and simple treats and baked goods.

Teatime is a pause in the late afternoon at which we partake of a light meal of some sort, but also, more importantly, calm the spirit by the enactment of a familiar ritual. Children’s Teatime differs in that the ceremony is being learned, rather than perfectly reenacted. Sometimes a child’s tea party does not involve food or beverage at all, because the essence of teatime lies in the act rather than the refreshment.

Deborah Thomas is a lifelong tea connoisseur who, at the invitation of schools or families, teaches children how to prepare and enjoy tea.

The continuing manufacture of children’s tea services, coupled with the abundance of tea party imagery in children’s books old and new, tells us that the teatime tradition remains fascinating to children.

Description

A book of simple crafts for children six and older.

We believe that modern life requires of us too little creativity; that living in a world where everything is done and made for you has disadvantages aw well as advantages. Most of us are deprived of the deep satisfactions which come from making things with our hands.

This book is a compilation of simple craft projects drawn from old books and magazines. None of them require special equipment (just yarn, cardboard, etc.), and are within the capabilities of most children.

Projects include: a clown riding on the back of a giraffe, a tiny merry-go-round, a paper May basket, a little house with cardboard inhabitants, handmade greeting cards and many more.

An illustrator named Sonia Roetter added a little drawing to each recipe, and a whimsical and useful page was created for each month.

We repirnt, in Fun in the Kitchen, more than a hundred of our favorite entries from the many hundreds which were run in the life of the column. they are simple enough to be cooked by children eight years and older. We have added a little color to the images in a manner which we think would have pleased the artist. Our staff chef has examined all the instructions for reasonableness.
