Jules Cannert (1890-1954) was a prolific artist whose life and career spanned continents and mediums. Born in Bucharest, Romania, he immigrated to New York City with his family in 1905. He opened an art studio in Manhattan in 1910 with his sister Claire, marking the start of his professional endeavors. After serving in World War I, he gained recognition for his illustrations in pulp magazines, transitioning to cover art for romance publications and slick magazines depicting glamorous Hollywood stars. His talents extended beyond traditional art, as he became involved in judging beauty contests and teaching art classes in Galveston, Texas, during the winter months. His legacy includes notable projects like a black-light rendition of Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper, which toured nationwide, showcasing his innovative spirit and entrepreneurial prowess.
