Jean Rhys is a remarkable and prolific fashion illustrator and one of the ones we admire most from this era. In the 1920's and 30's photography had not yet taken over entirely in fashion magazines, and the reliance was still heavily placed on beautiful illustration to evoke the right mood, place and look. Jean Rhys did a wonderful job of this, rising above mere illustrative reporting, into realms of great artistry.
