An article in the paper about Toastmasters, in conjunction with an article about people complaining that Seattleites are not very friendly, got us thinking about communication. I suspect that one reason people don't seem friendly is that they have never gained communication skills. Too much isolation, face-in-the-computer time and the reliance on email and Facebook for contact, doesn't really train one for face-to-face conversation. People have lost the ability to actually talk to each other!
We love this picture of two children (sisters, maybe?) so obviously enjoying some kind of conversation. We need to teach our children or, actually, give them time to develop social skills. Then they will know how to talk to strangers on the bus, or whatever!
