I wish I knew Dan's birthday (anybody out there know it?). If I did I'd be posting this on that day because I do want to honor him. However, I guess any day is a good day to do that.
Dan was a collector of metal and wooden types and type books from the early 20th century. He had an amazing collection, and at one point he found a way to transfer them to a photographically available form. In 1970s and 80s we used his fonts and expertise many times at the Green Tiger. What a kind and friendly man he was!
He regularly send newsletters such as these to his clients that showcased not only his wonderful collection but his humor and ingenuity.
His collecting and updating work ultimately made many fonts that would have been lost available to designers around the world. Thank you Dan!
