INSIDE GREETING: I'm thinking of you.

The bold and lively nature of this Leonetto Cappiello painting clearly illustrates why he was dubbed "the father of modern advertising"! Featuring his distinctive style with a vivid figure emerging from a black background, this polar bear originally advertised chocolate in 1929. Commissioned by Cailler, Switzerland’s oldest chocolate brand still in existence, the artwork promoted their enduring Frigor bar, available for over a century. The card, a delightful homage to this fun history, has proven highly popular among our customers! See all our Thinking of You Greeting cards!

Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) was an Italian-French poster art pioneer and one of the most influential advertising artists of the early 20th century! Born in Livorno, Italy, Cappiello moved to Paris in 1898, where he began his illustrious career as a caricaturist. His innovative approach to poster design revolutionized the advertising industry. Cappiello's bold, colorful, and dynamic posters, often featuring exaggerated characters and vivid imagery, became iconic representations of the brands they promoted. Notable works include his creations for brands like Café Martin, Cachou Lajaunie, and Parapluie-Revel. His lasting impact on graphic design and advertising aesthetics is evident in the timeless appeal of his work.
