This cat with string was initially made to advertise—believe it or not—string! The Zwicky company in Switzerland was known in Europe for their quality sewing and embroidery silk. Designed by Donald Brun in 1946, this spokescat still graces the company's logo, but it also adorns this fun birthday card! See our entire Birthday Card Collection!

Donald Brun (1909-1999), a Swiss graphic designer, began an artistic apprenticeship as a graphic illustrator in the late 1920s. His talent quickly gained recognition after winning a poster competition for Basel's baths and saunas in 1928. From the 1930s to the 1970s, he crafted numerous poster designs, primarily for consumer goods, with clients including esteemed companies like Bata, Bell, Gauloise, Persil, and Swissair. Known for his subtle humor and impeccable craftsmanship, his posters left a lasting impression. Additionally, in 1952, Brun was pivotal as the Aco-founder of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI).
