Hetty Burlingame Beatty (1907-1971) was a multifaceted American artist known for her contributions to sculpture, children's literature, and illustration. After formal training, her sculptures gained national recognition, earning her numerous awards and solo exhibitions at prestigious venues like the Worcester Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy. In 1941, she showcased her sculptures and drawings in a notable one-woman show. She ventured into writing and illustrating children's books alongside her sculpting career, showcasing her diverse talents. She married fellow artist Lewis F. Whitney in 1959 and gradually transitioned into writing, expressing her passion for storytelling and illustration. She dedicated much of her later years to children's literature alone.
