Ruth E. Newton (1884–1964) was a prolific American author and illustrator best known for her charming illustrations of animals, especially kittens and puppies. After completing her art education in Philadelphia, she primarily worked producing greeting cards and advertisements for notable brands like the Ivory Soap Company. However, her exceptional talent in illustrating children's books truly distinguished her. For the Whitman Publishing Company, her illustrations brought beloved stories to life. Throughout her career, she worked on numerous beloved titles, such as Peter Rabbit (1947). She also found success in toy design: in the 1940s, she created the Amosandra doll, a character inspired by the immensely popular Amos and Andy radio show, showcasing her versatility and creativity across various mediums!
