Carl Robert Arthur Thiele (1860-1936) was a versatile German artist known for his whimsical illustrations and anthropomorphic depictions of animals, earning him the monikers Dachshund-Thiele and Katzen-Thiele among fellow illustrators. Specializing in watercolors, his postcards, notably his Joke series for Cologne chocolate producer Ludwig Stollwerck, gained widespread popularity. With a keen eye for humor and charm, he portrayed humanized animals, notably dachshunds and cats, capturing the zeitgeist of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Germany. His legacy extends beyond postcards to include album illustrations and children's books, showcasing his enduring influence in art and illustration.
