Elling William "Bill" Gollings (1878-1932), in Pierce City, then the Territory of Idaho, is known for his authentic depictions of the Old West. Growing up in various locations across the US, he developed a passion for drawing and artistry. Venturing into the fading frontier of the late 1800s, he immersed himself in cowboy life, herding sheep and cattle across South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, and Wyoming. His firsthand experiences in the saddle provided the foundation for his iconic artworks, capturing the essence of the Western landscape and its inhabitants. His partnership with fellow artist Hans Kleiber further expanded his artistic repertoire, enabling him to produce fine-art prints and larger-scale works. Revered for his attention to detail and intimate knowledge of cowboy life, his legacy is a testament to the fusion of authentic Western experience and artistic talent.
