Description

This enchanting butterfly dancer might ring a bell if you stepped back in time to the 1920s! She's none other than the renowned Lily Lenora, celebrated for her captivating performance in the silent film Caprices of Fortune from 1912. Leo Sielke Jr. skillfully immortalized her in a mesmerizing illustration for the November 1924 edition of Dance Lovers Magazine, capturing a piece of the glamorous dance culture of that era. Leo Sielke, Jr. (1880-1930) left an indelible mark on the American illustration scene with his captivating portraits of silent-film stars, many of which graced the covers of popular film magazines during his era. However, artistic talent ran deep in his family, and his father, Leo Sielke Sr., laid the foundation for their artistic legacy through interior design. In 1903, Leo Sielke Sr. established the renowned firm Leo Sielke & Son, where Leo Jr. honed his artistic skills before embarking on a second career in sunny California. Notably, Princeton University Library's Theater Collection houses a collection of designs from Leo Sielke & Son, preserving their contributions to the world of design and illustration!
