Description

Zodiac, Alphonse Mucha's first work for the printer Champenois was originally created as an in-house calendar. The woman's regal presence and ornate jewelry accentuate her majestic beauty, while the halo-like disk behind her showcases the twelve zodiac signs. The stunning design caught the eye of Léon Deschamps, who acquired the rights for La Plume magazine's 1897 calendar. This became one of Mucha's most popular designs, with multiple variants. And in case you were wondering, Mucha's July 24th birthday made him a Leo! See this image on a greeting card!

Mucha (1860-1939) was a visionary artist whose artistry and creativity shaped the Art Nouveau movement! Born in 1860 in Moravia, now the Czech Republic, Mucha's artistic journey took him from a struggling artist to an internationally renowned master of his craft. With his distinctive style characterized by intricate patterns, flowing lines, and ethereal female figures, Mucha's art played a significant role in shaping the visual aesthetics of the late-19th and early-20th centuries.
