Louis Ritman (1889–1963) is a prominent American impressionist painter renowned for his evocative female nudes. Born in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Russian Empire, Ritman migrated to Chicago around 1900 with his family. He attended various art institutions, including the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There, he became part of the second wave of American artists in Giverny, France, where he found inspiration and spent summers for over two decades. His oeuvre often features the female form bathed in dappled sunlight or set within vibrant interiors, showcasing a unique blend of influences from his contemporaries and the works of Paul Cézanne. In 1929, he returned to the United States to teach at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
