Baby Procession - Baby Art Print
The enchanting illustration titled Dreamland graced the cover of the January 1913 issue of Ladies Home Journal. In it, Susan B. Pearse portrays a group of sleepy children, all clad in long white nightgowns, ascending a hill toward a distant castle. The older ones assist the younger ones, and the alert ones aid the drowsy. Some stray from the path to gather red poppies, known as the legendary inducers of sleep. The world depicted in the picture resembles a gentle dream within a dream and would be a lovely addition to a cozy bedroom. See our entire Babies Collection!
Susan Beatrice Pearse (1878–1980) was a British illustrator of children's books, best known for her work on the Ameliaranne series. Born in Kennington, South London, she was educated at King Edward's School, Southwark. Despite marrying fellow artist Walter Ernest Webster in 1919, she continued to use her maiden name professionally, although she was affectionately known as "Trissy" Webster to her friends. Her illustrations graced the pages of the Ameliaranne series, a collection of 20 children's books published by George G. Harrap of London between 1920 and 1950. Notably, the series involved eight authors collaborating with Pearse as the sole illustrator. Living her later years in the village of Blewbury, Berkshire, she passed away at home in London in 1980, just before her 102nd birthday. The enduring appeal of Ameliaranne's stories lies in her charming and expressive illustrations, which effectively carried the narrative despite the limited text.
