Whales - NYPL Notebook
24 Pages, lined
Dive deep into inspiration for your daily jottings—this is one of the oldest images we've adapted into a modern product! Created in collaboration with the New York Public Library (NYPL) for their 2024 exhibition "The Awe of the Arctic: A Visual History," this notebook features majestic whales of the north. The images are sourced from An Account of Several Late Voyages & Discoveries to the South and North, published in London in 1694 by S. Smith and B. Walford, printers to the Royal Society, the world's oldest independent scientific academy. The outside and inside cover feature images from German naturalist Friedrich Martens’ 1671 voyage aboard a whaling ship to Spitzbergen. Nearly 800 pieces of similar incunabula (early printed books, pamphlets, or broadsides) dating back hundreds of years can be found in the NYPL's Digital Galleries, and the complete collection is held in their Rare Book Division!
