What a view to enjoy at breakfast! These ladies are so at ease that a bird has even fluttered down to join them. Harold Harvey painted this scene in 1938. See our entire Food & Drink Collection!

Harold Harvey (1874–1941) was a distinguished painter associated with the Newlyn School, renowned for his evocative depictions of working-class life in Cornwall. Born in Penzance, he received his artistic training at the Penzance School of Arts, then at the Académie Julian in Paris. He found love and creative collaboration with fellow artist Gertrude Bodinnar, whom he married in 1911. They settled in Newlyn and fostered a vibrant artistic community alongside notable figures like Laura Knight and Harold Knight. His contributions to the arts were further solidified by his establishment, alongside his close friend Ernest Procter, of the Harvey-Procter School in Newlyn in 1920.
