Squirrel Reading - Books & Readers Greeting Card
INSIDE GREETING: Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.
It's well known that squirrels are voracious readers! Like them, the author of the inside caption is American academic Charles William Eliot. Koen van Os created this pro-literary poster in the late 1950s, with the Dutch caption reading "Wip er eens uit met een boek" (Get out with a book). We wholeheartedly agree! See this image as an art print!
Koen van Os (1910-1983) was a Dutch Surrealist artist who was celebrated for his striking and distinctive imagery. Although little is known about his personal life, he achieved commercial success through his illustrations for advertising posters. These posters spanned a wide range of products, including coffee, tobacco, travel destinations, and footwear, featuring bold imagery set against a single-color backdrop. Infused with a surreal touch, his artworks exude a captivating and somewhat bizarre aura, retaining their modern appeal even decades later!
