Alfred Edward Frederick Jackson (1873-1952), born in London, was a prominent illustrator during the Golden Age of Illustration. At the Camden School of Art, earning gold and silver medals for his early work. At twenty-eight years old, he made his debut at the Royal Academy. His illustrations then graced the pages of esteemed publications like The Sketch and the Daily Mail Sixpenny Novel series, alongside covers for children's books. Notably, his contributions to The Playbox magazine supplement elevated his reputation in the industry. The pinnacle of his career spanned from 1910 to 1920, during which he illustrated beloved classics such as Gulliver’s Travels, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and Robinson Crusoe. Settling in Hastings in his later years, Jackson remained active in the artistic community and influenced his daughters, Muriel and Elaine, who pursued successful careers as illustrators themselves.
