Alan Wright (1864-1959) was an accomplished artist born near Chard, Somerset. He honed his skills at the St John’s Wood School of Art and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1889. His career took off when he began producing illustrations, including work for G.E. Farrow’s Wallypug series. His association with Gleeson White led to an illustration of a Baron Corvo story in The Wide World Magazine in 1898. Still, a subsequent press scandal involving Corvo affected his career adversely. Wright lived and collaborated with George Vernon Stokes, sharing a studio flat for two decades. However, it was in 1911 that he met Anne Anderson, leading to their marriage in 1912. This partnership significantly influenced Wright's work, particularly creating animals and birds for Anne's compositions. His artistry extended to hunting and coaching scenes for calendars and greeting cards following Anne's death, leaving a lasting mark on the illustration and artistic collaboration world.
