INSIDE GREETING: Lose yourself in a book.

What a lovely way to spend an afternoon: snoozing in between chapters! Hamilton King appropriately named this piece Afternoon Nap when he painted it in 1914. It's a perfect card for book lovers to both send and receive! See our entire Books & Readers Collection!

Hamilton King (1871-1952) was a prominent illustrator based in New York and Maine, renowned for his captivating female portrait and figure pastel and gouache paintings. He gained widespread recognition for his iconic "Hamilton King Girls," which adorned various advertising materials, including calendars, trays, magazine covers, and cigarette cards. He illustrated some of these iconic, beautiful women for Coca-Cola from 1910 to 1913; his signature adorned all printed materials he created for Coca-Cola, a testament to his popularity. Beyond advertising, he contributed illustrations for sheet music, postcards, and theater productions. His influence on the illustration world is commemorated by the Society of Illustrators, which annually presents the prestigious Hamilton King Award to outstanding illustrators.
