Air France Propeller - Aeroplanes Art Print
"In all skies." We love this stylish 1949 Air France poster—the artist, cleverly included their winged seahorse logo in the movement of the propeller! The hippocampe ailé, as it's called in French, is a mythical creature with the upper body of a horse and the lower body of a fish. See this image on a greeting card AND on a notebook!
The credit on this poster art reads "Atelier Perceval," initially leading us to believe it was an individual's name. However, upon further investigation, we discovered that it actually refers to the Perceval workshop in Paris, which specialized in airline and travel illustrations during the 1940s. The exact nature of the workshop's composition, whether it involved multiple artists or a single artist, remains unclear. Do you know anything more about it? If so, send an email to our Brand Content Manager at allison@laughingelephant.com—we're always eager to learn more about vintage illustration!
