André Édouard Marty, A. É. Marty, (1882 – 1974) was a Parisian artist celebrated for his contributions to the classic Art Deco style. Educated at the École des Beaux-Arts and Atelier Fernand Cormon in Montmartre, Paris, he also served on the jury for the 1925 Exposition internationale des Arts décoratifs et industriels modernes. This pivotal event gave rise to the Art Deco movement! As an illustrator, he significantly contributed to La Gazette du bon ton for over a decade. Additionally, his illustrations graced the pages of prestigious publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Vanity Fair, plus book illustrations, advertisements, and theatre posters, including iconic designs for the Ballets Russes and the Théâtre National de l'Opéra. Collaborating with Georges Peignot, he contributed to typographic vignettes and ornaments for the esteemed G. Peignot et Fils foundry. In the 1930s, he expanded his repertoire as a costume and set designer for theatre, cinema, and ballet. Later in his career, he ventured into designing enamel vases, plates, and jewelry. He was indeed a versatile artist!
