This classic scene depicts Alice receiving advice (some of it confusing) from the Caterpillar, as illustrated by René Cloke in the 1940s for Alice in Wonderland. Many great artists have adapted Lewis Carroll's classic tale, but each rendition is unique and special in its own way. See this image on a friendship greeting card AND as an art print!

Rene Cloke (1904-1995) was an entirely self-taught British illustrator whose name is intrinsically linked with classic children's literature. Her artistic prowess spanned such a wide range that you'd be hard-pressed to find a timeless tale she didn't illustrate! Beyond her numerous contributions to storybooks, she was a remarkably prolific greeting card illustrator. We proudly continue to feature her work on our greeting cards, ensuring her enchanting art continues to brighten mailboxes. During WWII, Cloke's artistic abilities took on an entirely different dimension as she worked as a tracer, assisting in producing maps of enemy camps and installations from photographs captured by the Royal Air Force. Her legacy extends from cherished children's books to significant wartime contributions, cementing her versatile and impactful artist status.
