Meet this happy girl in her cloche hat, bringing potted plants of gratitude into your day! While the exact origin of this delightful image eludes us, we suspect it may have graced a magazine cover. The talented artist behind this creation is none other than Katherine R. Wireman, a prolific magazine cover artist. What makes her story even more remarkable is that she served as her family's sole breadwinner—a rare feat in the early 1900s. This smiling girl not only embodies the spirit of gratitude but also carries the legacy of an exceptional artist. See our entire Thank You Card Collection!

Katherine Richardson Wireman (1878-1966) was a prolific American artist. Orphaned at a young age, her aunt and guardian, Sallie, also an artist, arranged for her to attend Howard Pyle’s illustration classes at the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry. There, she formed lifelong friendships, including one with Eugenie M. Wireman, who introduced her to her future husband, Henry F. Wireman. Initially working as a fashion illustrator, Katherine later freelanced for books, ads, and magazines. An unverified but intriguing fun fact: her illustration for the January 1905 issue of The Ladies’ Home Journal might feature the first baby on a magazine cover. Skilled in depicting women, children, and families, Katherine often used her own three children with Henry as models.
