INSIDE GREETING: With sympathy for the loss of your wonderful friend.

This heartfelt card, which portrays fairies encircling a child and his treasured dog, conveys a message of comfort and camaraderie in the face of adversity. The illustration is extracted from the 1929 work Marcella, a touching story within the Raggedy Ann and Andy world, which Johnny Gruelle penned, naming it in loving memory of his late daughter.

Johnny Gruelle (1880-1938) was an American artist and writer renowned for his enduring creation of the beloved Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy characters. Born into an artistic family, his father, Richard Gruelle, was associated with the Hoosier Group of American Impressionist painters. Gruelle's artistic journey began in the realm of political cartoons and single-frame sports comics, showcasing his versatile talents. The enchanting Raggedy Ann and Andy characters he birthed enjoyed remarkable success, extending beyond literature into extensive character merchandising, solidifying their place in the hearts of generations.
