Patty Prather Thum (1853–1926), an esteemed American artist from Kentucky, specialized in landscape painting, floral artistry, and book illustration. After honing her skills under renowned mentors such as William Merritt Chase and Thomas Eakins, she established her studio in Louisville, where she meticulously crafted vibrant depictions of Kentucky's natural beauty for over three decades. Her oeuvre encompassed various subjects, from still lifes to portraits, earning acclaim for her evocative renditions of private gardens and native landscapes. Her artistic prowess extended beyond the canvas; she contributed to art publications, served as president of the Louisville Art League, and assumed the role of art critic for the Louisville Herald. Her talent garnered recognition, including an honorable mention at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago for her illustration work.
