Albertine Randall Wheelan (May 27, 1863 - January 9, 1954) was an American illustrator, cartoonist, and costume designer from San Francisco, California. After her husband's passing in 1915, she moved to New York City. There, she gained recognition as the primary costume designer for David Belasco's productions for two decades. She ventured into comic art, creating the daily strip In Rabbitboro in 1927, which later evolved into the popular comic The Dumbunnies in 1931. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, she infused her creations with whimsy and charm, inviting readers to discover their inner "Dumbunny." Her artistic contributions included illustrating numerous children's books and crafting holiday covers for publications like the New York Herald Tribune's Sunday supplements. Her son, Edgar Wheelan, continued the family cartooning legacy; he was the cartoonist of Minute Movies, a groundbreaking comic strip takeoff on the silent movie era!
