Dorothy P. Lathrop (1891-1980) was an American author and illustrator, known for her children's books and animal illustrations. She was the very first recipient of the Caldecott Medal for illustration in 1938 for her work in Animals of the Bible. A prolific artist in many mediums, Lathrop's art is characterized by her attention to detail and her ability to capture the unique personalities of animals in her illustrations.
