Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966) was a renowned American artist and illustrator celebrated for his vibrant use of color, idealized neo-classical scenes, and a glazing technique that made his paintings appear to glow! Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Parrish's career spanned five decades and was marked by tremendous success. His notable works include the iconic painting Daybreak (1922), which was declared by the National Museum of American Illustration as the most successful art print of the 20th century! His skill in combining elements of both realism and fantasy lent itself well to children’s book illustration and cemented his place among the leading artists of the Golden Age of Illustration.
