Elmer Boyd Smith (1860-1943) was an American illustrator born in Canada, raised in Boston, and educated in France. He is best known for his remarkable contributions to children's literature and classic literature illustrations. Smith gained widespread recognition for his distinctive style, characterized by detailed pen-and-ink drawings and vibrant watercolor illustrations. He illustrated more than seventy books for both adults and children, including beloved classics like Robinson Crusoe, well-known stories from the Bible, and classic tales and fables. Like many artists of his time, he also created illustrations for magazines and newspapers, showcasing his versatility as an artist.
