Many of our customers are proud pet owners, but unfortunately, that sometimes means they need a sympathy card for a beloved pet. Edwina's fanciful image of animal heaven is a sweet match. It's from the pages of Sonnets from the Pekinese and Other Doggerel (1935) by Burges Johnson. See our entire Sympathy Card Collection.

Edwina Dumm (1893-1990) signed her comic work as "Edwina," an influential American cartoonist and illustrator who made history as America's first full-time female editorial cartoonist! Breaking gender barriers in the male-dominated cartooning field, she left an indelible mark on the world of comics. Her most notable creation, Cap Stubbs and Tippie, a comic strip that ran for an impressive 50 years from 1918 to 1968, showcased her sharp wit and talent for crafting engaging characters. Edwina's work continues to inspire cartoonists, particularly women, and her legacy serves as a powerful reminder of the pioneering spirit that has shaped the world of illustration and editorial cartoons.
