Balloons, Hats & Pastry - Purim Greeting Card
OUTSIDE GREETING: Happy Purim
BLANK INSIDE
A watercolor painting to commemorate Purim! During this Jewish holiday, which marks the salvation of the Jewish people from Haman, it's customary to enjoy the traditional three-cornered pastry believed to have originated in medieval Germany. Known as "hamantaschen," the name is derived from two German words, "mohn" (poppy seed) and "taschen" (pockets), originally called "mohntaschen." By the late 1500s, German Jews adopted the term "hamantaschen," or "Haman's pockets," likely referencing the rumor that Haman's pockets were filled with bribe money. Artist Patricia Peacock-Evans pairs this treat with festive elements in her celebratory still life. See all our Jewish Holiday Cards!
Patricia "Patsy" Peacock-Evans (1945-2023) was an American-born, Canadian-based self-taught artist and cherished family member to the Laughing Elephant founders. Exceptionally skilled in watercolor, she also excelled in graphite and ink. Recognizing a gap in our catalog of greeting cards for Jewish holidays and occasions, we commissioned her to paint a line for us. With her talent for capturing detailed still-life scenes, especially those featuring food, we knew her work would be perfect for our collection. And indeed, it was!
This product was custom designed and created at our location in Seattle.
