Little Girl With Kittens - Birthday Greeting Card
INSIDE GREETING: Happy Birthday dear friend.
"Luck what's here! I wish I could send enough to last you for ever!" exclaims the caption on the original postcard by D. Tempest, accompanying this delightful image. It's a charming scene featuring two cats, and indeed, the presence of two feline companions is a stroke of luck for any cat lover! It's evident why this is one of our most popular illustrations. See this image on an art print, on a notebook, AND on postcards in a set!
Douglas Tempest (1887–1954), though not a household name, was a postcard artist extraordinaire! Born in Norfolk, he always signed his work simply as "D. Tempest." The majority of his career was spent with the postcard manufacturer Bamforth & Co. During the tumultuous times of World War I, his creative genius shone in the form of popular anti-Kaiser cartoons and designs depicting life on the wartime home front. His exceptional popularity led to the hiring of two artists to work under him, tasked with emulating his distinctive style. Tempest's postcards captured the essence of an age when snail mail conveyed love, greetings, and nostalgia, and today, they stand as cherished collectibles that transport us to a bygone era of postcard artistry.
