Description

Paramount Pictures had originally envisioned The War of the Worlds as a silent-era project for Cecil B. DeMille. In H.G. Wells' original novel, the story unfolded in Victorian England, and the proposed DeMille version would have followed suit. However, by the time the studio began production, Orson Welles' 1938 radio adaptation had already become legendary, partly due to its modern setting. Recognizing the evolving audience expectations, special effects master George Pal approached the 1953 Technicolor extravaganza with a similar modern treatment, yielding comparably successful results. This reproduction, based on the original 40" x 60" artwork, is rarely seen at auction and uniquely features the Martian warships—a rarity from one of the most significant science fiction films of all time.
