Guy Orlando Rose (1867-1925) was a prominent figure in the California School of Impressionism. Born in San Gabriel, California, a hunting accident resulted in a facial injury at age nine. He discovered his passion for art while recovering, experimenting with sketches, watercolors, and oils. After formal art training at the California School of Design in San Francisco, he traveled to France. At the Academie Julian, he won scholarships for further study and formed lifelong friendships with other artists. He was the protégée of Claude Monet in Giverny from 1904 to 1912. Rose's impressionistic style blossomed, earning him recognition and accolades, including Gold Medals at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition and the Panama-California Exposition. Despite health challenges, he continued to create and teach, leaving a legacy in public collections across the United States.
