Description

Despite her hat trouble, this Lady still exudes undeniable style! This artwork by Erté, originally gracing the cover of the August 1927 edition of Harper's Bazar (with an additional "a" added to "Bazaar" in 1930), is a shining example of Art Deco perfection. Notably, he created an impressive 240 covers for the magazine, showcasing his exceptional talent for capturing the essence of an era with his illustrations.

Erté (1892-1990), whose birth name was Romain de Tirtoff, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. After collaborating with the renowned Paul "Le Magnifique" Poiret on various theatrical productions, Erté ventured into independent work. He crafted stunning costume and fashion designs for the most celebrated actresses of his time, like Joan Crawford, Lillian Gish, and Norma Shearer, to name a few. His breathtaking stage designs graced iconic venues such as New York's Radio City Music Hall and the Paris Opera. His artistic design work in the fields of fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, costume and set design for film, theatre, opera, and interior decor rightfully earned him the title, "The Father of the Art Deco Movement."
