Frederick Sands Brunner (1886-1954) was an American artist from Pennsylvania. After high school, he worked in the Boyertown cigar factory until he saved enough money to pursue art as a career. He attended the School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia and graduated in 1909 with numerous awards. He further honed his skills at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Graphic Sketch Club. Initially employed as a staff artist for the Ladies Home Journal, he spent thirteen years creating pen and ink drawings, celebrity portraits, illustrations, and cover designs. Transitioning to freelance work, he crafted magazine cover designs and advertisements for prominent brands like Coca-Cola, Kellogg, and Camel cigarettes. During World War II, he contributed two Red Cross posters. Alongside his commercial work, he painted numerous portraits, including those of General Carl Spatz, his childhood friend from Boyertown. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Brunner enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing, horseback riding on his beloved horse "Brighteyes," and archery, themes that appeared in his work.
