Karl Godwin (1893-1962), a Canadian-born illustrator, made notable contributions to the field of illustration during the late 1920s and early 1930s, particularly through his vibrant advertisements for Hudson cars. After receiving his art education at the Art Students League in the United States, he briefly taught commercial art courses at Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles from 1922 to 1923. Eventually settling in New York City by 1940, Godwin later relocated to Westport, Connecticut, where he resided until his passing. Although he never reached the upper echelons of the profession, his work stood out for its distinctive use of color and subtle caricature, which added depth and personality to his subjects.
