Babies Playing in Field - Baby Greeting Card
INSIDE GREETING: Babies are angels, sent on errands of love.
"Wake, wake, my dears, the sun is up, and open wide your eyes; And listen to the birdies say 'it's morn', be glad to rise, it's morn', be glad to rise!'" This verse by Beatrice Hubbell-Plummer and accompanying illustration by Mary Lafetra Russell made their debut in the 1920 book Little Homespun Songs and Verses. This charming book features a collection of written poems and songs, many alongside corresponding musical scores for melody and piano accompaniment. See this image as an art print!
Mary LaFetra Russell thrived in the vibrant era of the Golden Age of Illustration and was most active in the 1920s, though her personal biography remains relatively elusive. Nevertheless, her artistic legacy shines through her delightful depictions of cheerful, cherubic children in both book illustrations and postcard art.
