Little Girls at Party - Birthday Greeting Card
INSIDE GREETING: May this, and all your birthdays, be splendid!
This book illustration by Frances Tipton Hunter depicts a proper birthday celebration. It originates from a 1923 book that serves as a guide on hosting a proper party: The Children's Party Book by Marion Jane Parker with recipes by Helen Harington Downing. Drawing inspiration from these little party-goers, we transformed it into a delightful birthday card! See our entire Birthday Card Collection!
Frances Tipton Hunter (1896-1957) found her artistic calling early on, illustrating children's fashion in art school. She had a penchant for watercolor and a deep love for portraying children and pets in her art. Her popularity soared in the 1920s when she introduced beloved paper dolls in magazines. Her work graced the covers of popular magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Woman's Home Companion, and Good Housekeeping. However, her true claim to fame came in the post-World War II years when she became the era's most renowned and best-selling calendar artist. Hunter's art, filled with innocence and nostalgia, particularly in depicting children, has left an enduring legacy in illustration.
